WILM-TV To Preempt "Cupid"

WILMINGTON - WILM-TV will preempt the CBS network reality series Cupid due to content that demeans and exploits the institution of marriage. The station's decision is based upon the fact that this program tempts the final contestant to propose marriage for a one million dollar dowry.

While acknowledging that reality programming has become very popular on broadcast television, WILM-TV's position is that it will not broadcast reality programming which demeans or exploits marriage. Further, WILM-TV has not been afforded the opportunity to preview the programs in advance. Cupid's network airdate is scheduled for Wednesday, July 9, 2003.

WILM-TV previously broadcast CBS reality TV programs such as Survivor and Big Brother.
