FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 21, 2001 For more information, contact Bill Peterson, WRAL General Manager, 919-821-8568 Senator Helms Announces His Decision to Return or Retire Wednesday at 6pm on WRAL-TV5 Raleigh, NC--North Carolina Senator Jesse Helms will announce his plans for the future Wednesday night on WRAL-TV5's 6:00 News. WRAL will also air a 1-hour special about the Senator starting at 8 p.m. on Wednesday , which will include an exclusive one-on-one interview with Helms conducted by anchor David Crabtree, as well as reaction from Helms' political colleagues. Helms has been a Senator for five terms. He was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1972. WRAL's entire 6pm newscast will be uplinked via satellite at 5:50pm-7pm, SBS6 KU, Transponder 9,Audio 6.2 & 6.8;and simulcast at 6pm on MIX 101.5 WRAL FM. Excerpting is allowed with proper credit to WRAL-TV5. Portions of the newscast will be available via live video streaming on WRAL.com.
