COMPANY WINS AWARD FOR HDTV DEVELOPMENT WORK On July 23, 1996, the station became the first commercial television facility in the nation to transmit a high definition television signal. The new technology delivers a wider, sharper, and more colorful picture than existing television. However, television receivers for the new broadcast system will not be available to the consumer until mid 1998. James F. Goodmon, Chief Executive Officer and President of Capitol, said he was proud to receive the award. "HDTV is the wave of the future and we are pleased to be out front with this amazing new technology. We want our viewers to experience the better signals first."
