The History of Capitol Broadcasting Company

Capitol Broadcasting Company is steeped in a rich history, created by a family who has always sought to serve the community. A Raleigh lawyer and businessman A.J. Fletcher applied for a 250-watt AM radio station in 1937, forming Capitol Broadcasting Company. He was 52 years old at the time. WRAL-AM went on the air in 1939, as only the second radio station in Raleigh NC. Over the years he, his sons and his grandson worked alongside other dedicated employees to make CBC and WRAL household names in central North Carolina. Grandson Jim Goodmon now heads the company as President & CEO, with his own sons coming up in the ranks to help guide CBC’s continuing leadership in the community.
