About Special Olympics North Carolina:
Special Olymipcs NCSONC provides a year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. The goal is for all persons of intellectual disabilities to have the chance to become useful and productive citizens who are accepted and respected in their communities.

Special Olympics NCThe 2008 Special Olympics North Carolina Summer Games will take place in Raleigh on June 6-8. Nearly 1,300 athletes, 600 coaches, 500 family members and 1,000 volunteers will be a part of this momentous event. Athletes from across NC will compete in aquatics, athletics, gymnastics, powerlifting, softball or volleyball. WRAL-TV and FOX 50 are sponsors.

How To Help with the Special Olympics North Carolina Summer Games:

Volunteers receive a t-shirt and the satisfaction of helping one of the state's largest amateur sports organizations. You'll also get to meet some of the most inspiring athletes in the world.
