For August 2007, the CBC Community Profile revisits The Salvation Army of Wake County. The organization's Food Assistance Pantry has run very low on non-perishable food items.

About The Food Pantry Shortage:
The Salvation Army of Wake County is in dire need of non-perishable food items to stock its Food Assistance Pantry.

Salvation ArmySummer is typically a time when food donations decrease, but the need increases.  Children are home from school during the summer, without the hot lunch that school provides.  Families must scramble to feed these children while juggling the increased costs of summer day care and summer camps while school is not in session.

The Food Pantry is stocked using donations from individuals, companies, area food drives, and weekly purchases from the N.C. Food Bank.

How To Help Restock the Food Pantry:
DONATE
The Salvation Army is asking  individuals, businesses, churches, civic clubs and any other groups to donate nonperishable food items.  The Salvation Army has collection barrels available for group food drives.

Doing the Most GoodSuggested Items:  Canned fruits, vegetables, meats and soups; Dry goods such as rice, cereal, pasta, crackers, and powdered milk; Peanut butter, jellies, etc.
