CBC Community Profile

Capitol Broadcasting Company believes one of our greatest responsibilities is supporting our community. CBC’s Community Profile is a new monthly feature on the Web – a way to inform our employees and the public about the work of area non-profits, and their volunteer opportunities and needs.

As the holidays approach, one North Carolina non-profit needs help in supporting our troops overseas. So, for December 2007, take a closer look at Give 2 the Troops.

Give 2 the Troops

About Give 2 the Troops:
The North Carolina branch of Give 2 the Troops sends care packages to soldiers overseas.  Christmastime is their busiest season: in 2006, they sent 800 care packages, each with enough goodies for 10 soldiers, to war zones.

Give 2 the TroopsThe group recently issued an urgent plea for donations, both financial and items for the packages.  Shipping costs ran around $16,000 to deliver last year’s holiday packages, but Give 2 the Troops bank account is almost empty.  And right now the organization only has goods for about 25 to 50 boxes.  They’ve already had requests for 125 care packages and expect more.

Give 2 the Troops“Can you imagine being in the desert or in the mountains of Afghanistan, cold at night, away from your family and friends, with no recreation whatsoever, except what comes in a care package?  No holiday food?” said Barbara Whitehead, director of the NC branch of Give 2 the Troops.   “I’m panicked, because the troops depend on us.”
