About the American Heart Association:
The American Heart Association is a national voluntary agency whose mission is to reduce disability and death from cardiovascular diseases and stroke.

AHAAHA raises money for research, public health education, professional  training, other community services and more.

Six cardiologists formed the American Heart Association in 1924. Their goal was to improve public and medical awareness during a time of "almost unbelievable ignorance about heart disease," said Dr. Paul Dudley White, one of the founders.

About Go Red for Women & 2007 National Wear Red Day:
Go Red for WomenGo Red For Women is the AHA’s nationwide movement that celebrates the energy, passion and power women have to band together and wipe out heart disease. Thanks to the participation of millions of people across the country, the color red and the red dress have become linked with the ability all women have to improve their heart health and live stronger, longer lives.

Too few people realize that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of American women — and of men. But the good news is that heart disease can largely be prevented. Go Red For Women empowers women with knowledge and tools so they can take positive action to reduce their risks of heart disease and stroke and protect their health.

Go Red For Women logoGo Red For Women began in February 2004, and has since grown into a vibrant national movement as more women, men, celebrities, healthcare professionals and politicians embrace and elevate the cause of women and heart disease.

The 2007 National Wear Red Day will be Friday, February 2nd.  On this day, women (and men!) across the nation will wear red to bring awareness to the fact that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women.

In order to wipe out heart disease in women, AHA asks you to take action by taking the Go Red For Women Heart Checkup.  This comprehensive evaluation of your overall heart health can help you now and in the future.

Go Red for WomenBy knowing your numbers and assessing your risks today, you can work with your doctor to significantly reduce your chances of getting heart disease tomorrow, next year or thirty years from now.  After you take it, pass it onto your mother, your daughter, your sister or your friend.  Know your numbers - save a life.
