Retired WRAL-TV Anchor Charlie Gaddy now has an award in his name at the Peak City International Film Festival.

Former WRAL-TV Anchor Charlie Gaddy may have retired from the news desk, but the Triangle icon is still very active in the community.   One of Gaddy’s pet projects, Apex’s annual Peak City International Film Festival – Family Style, recently honored him with an award in his name.

At the opening ceremonies for the 2009 event, the festival presented the first-ever Continuing Lifetime Achievement in the Visual Arts award, which was dubbed The Gaddy Award in honor of Gaddy.

“His character, high level of integrity, respect and support for the community, has created phenomenal goodwill within and outside of the Triangle,” said the festival promoters.  “In Mr. Gaddy's years of broadcasting, many people have come to consider him a member of their family.”

The night also saw the world premiere of Gaddy’s first professional on-camera acting role.  He played Grandpa Peakssen in “The Rusty Bucket Kids Club:  The Adventures of The Magic Glasses.”

The first Gaddy Award went to legendary Jerry Mathers, best know for his role as Beaver on “Leave it to Beaver.”  Gaddy & Mathers arrived together by motorcade at the Friday night, November 20th event.  Gaddy received a prototype of the award.
