Although many CBC employees spend their weekends at home, all of our radio and television stations remain on the air 24-7, seven days a week.
On Sundays from 8am to noon, MIX 101.5 WRAL-FM takes a break from its “best-MIX-while-you-work” format to bring a different flavor of music to its listeners.
Cornerstone has literally become a cornerstone of MIX 101.5’s broadcasting over the years. The Sunday morning contemporary Christian music program has been on the air for over two decades. Recently MIX decided to change up the music a bit, but WRAL-FM Copywriter/Air Personality Jami Caskey is still the glue that holds the show together.

“As with every show on MIX 101.5, it is our goal to have the best product on the air for both our listeners and advertisers,” said WRAL-FM Program Director Barry Fox. “We are always looking for ways to improve and recently invested in research to find out the precise songs our audience would like to hear each Sunday morning.”
Fox, who joined MIX a little over a year ago, has “mixed” up a new playlist for Cornerstone.
“We are confident that now more than ever, you will hear the Best MIX of Contemporary Christian Music each week on Cornerstone,” said Fox. “In addition to the music MIX, Jami Caskey does an outstanding job using her in-depth Christian music knowledge and personality to create the perfect Sunday morning show on MIX 101.5.”
Cornerstone launched in January 1984 as a 2-hour Sunday morning program that featured “today’s best contemporary Christian music.” Mike Urben produced and hosted. Caskey began selecting the music, producing and hosting in 1992, sort of a “one woman show.” Since that time Cornerstone has grown to a four hour program.

“I like working on Cornerstone because the music really speaks to me,” said Caskey. “I’m one of those folks whose attitude is affected by the music I listen to, books I read, movies, etc.
So listening to Christian music not only reaffirms my faith and keeps me focused on God like I should be, but it makes me feel good, optimistic.”
To stay on top of the music she’s playing, Caskey makes CDs of new songs and listens in her car. She says “that’s another opportunity to be uplifted by the music’s message.”
She and Cornerstone have quite a history with MIX listeners and the Triangle community. And she believes that’s a history that has enriched her life.
“I first started doing the show the year before our first son was born,” she said, “so it’s helped hold me together and lift me up through 2 pregnancies, and the fun and craziness of raising kids- plus our boys have grown up around Christian music and enjoy it, so that’s a huge blessing.”
