CBC Stations Join the Tsunami Relief Efforts

Several CBC divisions are joining in the push to help the victims of the Tsunami in the devastated regions of Asia.

As of January 5, 2005, the American Red Cross reported $131,094 in checks designated for the WRAL's Tsunami Disaster Relief campaign.  This figure does not include online donations that go directly to the national Red Cross.  Both WRAL-TV & WRAL-FM have been encouraging their viewers & listeners to contribute.

WRAL-TV has been making appeals during its newscasts and has created a special section on how to donate on WRAL.com.  WRAL-FM/MIX 101.5 put together an on-air campaign throughout the day driving listeners to their website ( www.wralfm.com ) for instructions on where to donate.  Over one month's time, MIX will donate $25,000 in on-air inventory towards the fundraising effort.

WRAL-TV is also producing a relief PSA to begin airing this week – asking viewers to give monetary donations to the Red Cross International Response Fund.

CBC's television stations in Charlotte are also encouraging their viewers to donate.  WJZY-TV & WWWB-TV viewers are being invited to send their Tsunami Relief contributions to the Charlotte Bobcats Charitable Foundation, with checks designated as WJZY Relief Fund and WWWB Relief Fund.  These contributions are channeled through the foundation to the US Fund for UNICEF which is providing lifesaving supplies to help ensure the survival and protection of children who survived the disaster.

Plans are in the works for several other CBC divisions to join the relief effort.  Stay tuned to capcom for details.
