Mon, 1/17 – 8am
Sheraton Imperial RTP

Two Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday events have become staples in the Triangle, and members of the community are invited to attend.

The 24th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Triangle Interfaith Prayer Breakfast will take place on Monday, January 17, 2005, and all members of the community are invited to attend.  Capitol Broadcasting Company marks 15 consecutive years as a sponsor of the event commemorating King's life and legacy each year.  “Let's Celebrate & Elevate” is the theme for the 2005 MLK Holiday events.

The MLK Triangle Interfaith Prayer Breakfast will take place at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel & Convention Center in Research Triangle Park .  Doors open at 7:00am; breakfast is first come, first served.  The program begins at 8am. The event is free and open to the public.

The Right Reverend Dr. Michael Bruce Curry, the 11th Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina, will provide the keynote address at the breakfast.  A variety of community and religious leaders from all corners of the Triangle will offer prayers and comments as well.

A relatively new event to the MLK holiday celebrations, the third annual MLK Holiday performance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. All-Children's Choir concert will take place on Sunday, January 16th at the Meymandi Concert Hall in the BTI Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Raleigh.  For the first time this year, the newly-formed Triangle Youth Jazz Ensemble will join the choir for the 4pm concert.  The two will present “A Celebration of Soul, Gospel and Jazz Musical Scores” as a “collective tribute to the remembrance of the late incomparable Ray Charles.”

Breakfast sponsors CBC & WRAL-TV, as well as the A.J. Fletcher Foundation all help sponsor the concert.

Ticket prices are $15, and all seats are general admission.  A few tickets will be available in Meymandi Hall on the day of the event, but the concert is always a sell-out. For tickets, contact the Raleigh Memorial Auditorium Box Office at 831-6060.  All proceeds will benefit the MLK All-Children's Choir and the Triangle Youth Jazz Ensemble.

The WRAL NewsChannel will air the MLK Triangle Interfaith Prayer Breakfast on Monday, January 17th at 2pm and 8:30pm and again on Tuesday, January 18th at 8am.  The WRAL NewsChannel is located on Digital Cable Channel 256.
