The Durham Bulls Athletic Park served as the starting and finishing lines for the First Annual Walk for Education on Saturday, April 13, 2002. The Durham Public Education Network sponsored the event to raised money for Durham Public Schools.
The Walk for Education brought in over $65,000, and over 1,000 people participated. The community wide event also provided an opportunity for students, faculty and their families to spend quality family time together. On Sunday, April 14, the participants from the Walk for Education came out to the Durham Bulls game for a pre-game awards ceremony to recognize the participants and the sponsors. Capitol Broadcasting Company, FOX 50, WRAL-TV and the Durham Bulls were all sponsors of the event. Afterwards, they stayed to watch the Bulls take on the Indianapolis Indians. The Durham Public Education Network is an independent, not-for-profit organization with the goal of involving the community of Durham, NC in supporting and sustaining a high quality system of public education for each and every student. |
