WJZY/WWWB Vice
President & General Manager Linda Sherman accepted the award from
Wal-Mart District Manager Curtis Scheffe. The Charlotte stations
helped by airing the spot for the missing children's program bringing
awareness to the community. Viewers can call 1-800-THE-LOST to reach
the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children if they recognize
a child and help reunite a family.
The Network
was formed through a partnership between Wal-Mart, SAM'S CLUB and
the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
A special bulletin board is prominently placed in every Wal-Mart
Store and SAM'S CLUB, featuring photos of missing children and the
toll-free hotline number of the NCMEC. The Associates keep the boards
continually updated. 3,560 kids

have been featured with
2,355 recovered. 57 of those recoveries are a direct result of our boards
in the stores. Since Wal-Mart and the National Center for Missing & Exploited
Children formed the Missing Children's Network in 1996, nearly 2,000 children
have been recovered.
UPN46 and WB55 helped
in the recovery of a 15 year-old boy who had been missing from his home
in Bessemer City, North Carolina since November 2000. His picture was
featured on Wal-Mart's Missing Children's Board in numerous locations.
A customer recognized his photo at the Lincolnton, North Carolina Wal-Mart
store and contacted local authorities. He was reunited with his family
on July 12, 2001. He was the 56th child to be found through Wal-Mart's
program and the 7th to be reunited through the program in 2001.
