In a show of
support for the United States and the victims of Tuesday's terrorist
strikes, several CBC divisions worked together to raise money for
the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Through "Relief for
America" MIX 101.5 WRAL-FM, WRAL-TV, FOX 50 and the Durham Bulls
have raised around $415,000 to aid the Red Cross so far.
Personalities
and staff from all four CBC entities manned fundraising booths at
Crabtree Mall in Raleigh, Cary Towne Center in Cary and the Durham
Bulls Athletic Park in downtown Durham from 6:00am-7:00pm on Thursday,
Sept. 13th. Well over 4,000 people stopped by to make donations.
A steady stream
of Triangle citizens moved through the donation areas. Children
gave their allowances, companies raised money to present collectively,
even an American Airlines flight attendant stopped by in full uniform
to give money. Each person received an American flag as a gesture
of patriotism and solidarity. Many attached them to their car antennas
or luggage racks.
The donations
will be used to assist victims of the attack on America and their
families. MIX 101.5 decided to re-open the Crabtree Mall booth from
6:00-9:00am today, Friday, September 14th, because so many want
to give.
Those unable
to stop by one of the donation areas can still give money online
