The tournament
raised about $30,000 to fund to the fight against skin cancer. Fletcher
himself died of cancer in January of last year. According to ACS,
"Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States.
According to current estimates, 40% to 50% of Americans who live
to age 65 will have skin cancer at least once."
CBC sponsored
the event, as did WRAL-FM/MIX 101.5. The company entered one team
of four: Senior VP of Finance John Brennan, VP of HD John Greene,
Corporate Secretary Scottie Stephenson, and Corporate Controller
Whit Neville.
The foursome
teed off at 8:00am with half of the field of 150 golfers; the other
half teed at 1:30pm. The group joined for a buffet luncheon in the
clubhouse.
