Host "Vigil of Hope" At Ballpark |
WRAL-TV and FOX 50
partnered with the City of Durham and Radio One for a "Vigil of Hope"
as part of the National Day of Prayer & Remembrance on Friday, September
14th. Citizens from around the Triangle gathered at the Durham Bulls Athletic
Park for the candlelight prayer event at 7:00pm. Nearly 5,000 people filled
the ballpark to remember the victim's of Tuesday's terrorist attack.

Lasting almost
2 hours, the event featured performers such as the Bethel Family
Worship Center and Pastor Shirley Caesar. "God has brought us together,
and this is what the Lord has wanted from us all along," Caesar
said. "Now we must stay unified. Not just during this tragedy but
beyond today. We must remain unified."

NC Senator John Edwards led the crowd in the "Pledge of Allegiance" and
spoke as well. "I thought it was important to be home with the people
of my state today and tomorrow," said Sen. Edwards. "It is important for
us to have a place to gather and come together as people of America and
a family.
Durham firefighters
attended the ceremony and received a standing ovation. The Durham Police
Department fired a salute to close the event.
The "Relief for America"
campaign continued at the gate of the ballpark. WRAL-TV, MIX 101.5, FOX
50 and the Durham Bulls raised another $7,450 as the crowd entered, bringing
the first two days of their fundraiser to over $500,000.
