50 Teens Receive Emmy Nod |
Some Durham teenagers
have already received their first Emmy nomination. Students in Explorer
Post 50, sponsored by FOX 50 and the Durham Bulls, were one of only three
student groups nominated for the Student Production Emmy by the Midsouth
region.

Students ran their productions of the Durham Bulls home games. |
The Explorer
Post 50 teens produced 32 home games during the 2000-2001 Durham
Bulls season to air live on FOX 50's alternate digital channel.
The students ran the live simulcasts themselves, with the support
of Durham Bulls Director of Media Operations and Post 50 Director
Aaron Bare and FOX 50 Engineering Manager Jimmy Gamble.

"I am very happy for
our crew and extremely proud of the job they're doing," said Bare. "Being
nominated is a wonderful honor and very rewarding for the students who
worked so hard."

Rob Jentsch, a member
of Explorer Post 50 for the first time this year expressed his thoughts
to the Post's leaders, "I have never seen anything like it. Many group
members had incredible work ethics and were very interested in learning
the trade; with Aaron [Bare]'s leadership we had great potential. I really
appreciated the support of all of the very knowledgeable members. Thank
you for providing students with such an educational, fun, interesting,
positive, informative, and very beneficial opportunity to learn about
broadcasting a game."
Explorer Post 50 was
founded in 1999 after Capitol Broadcasting CEO Jim Goodmon decided to
use the Durham Bulls and Fox 50 to expand the opportunities in Exploring
to the Durham community. The students of Explorer 50 have been producing
a closed-circuit broadcast for Bulls' home games since 1999. This season,
the Bulls and Fox 50 expanded the program to broadcast 32 home games on
WRAZ-DT, Fox 50's digital channel.
