Room To Picnic With The Bulls |

The Bulls are building two new picnic areas on the skybox level.

The Durham Bulls
Athletic Park will begin its' seventh season with two new picnic
areas.
Construction
began last week on the "party patios" that are located on the skybox
level - one at the right field end of the upper story and one at
the left field corner. Each patio can hold about 100 fans. The stadium
roof will be extended to cover the new decks to give the Bulls weatherproof
picnic space within the main seating bowl. "That's a feature few
ball parks can boast," says Bulls Assistant General Manager Mike
Birling.
"Picnics and
group outings are a big part of our business," according to Ticket
Manager Jon Bishop. "This is

an
opportunity to take advantage of the growing demand. Our two existing
picnic areas in the outfield are usually booked for the entire season."

Bull's
concessionaire Volume Services America plans an expanded menu for the
picnic decks. In addition to the traditional ballpark fare of hotdogs
and burgers VSA will offer a pasta bar and carving station.

new party decks will hold 100 people each and the roof with be extended

Lend Lease is the Bulls' contractor for the project and Durham's Freelon
Group is the architect. Construction was evident last week to motorists
on the Durham freeway as a nearby crane lowered steel beams into place
over the ballpark concourse. Concrete will be poured next week, and the
finishing touches should be complete for opening day, April 5th.
