Bulls Career Expo Attracts Almost 3,000 Job Seekers

Nearly 3,000 job seekers flocked to the Durham Bulls Ballpark between 4:00 and 8:00pm on Thursday, September 20, for the Third Annual "Field of Dreams" Career Expo. Capitol Broadcasting's MIX 101.5 served as a title sponsor for the event, along with IBM and the Triangle Apartment Association.

A crowd lined up at the gate to attend the Career Expo. Almost 3,000 job seekers attended the event.

The event has seen a steady increase in attendance over its three years in existence from 1,500 in 1999 to 2,000 in 2000 to this year's 2,900 attendees. Seventy-five Triangle companies had booths at the Career Expo this year, including Capitol Broadcasting Company, IBM, Alcatel, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, Triangle Apartment Association, Centura Bank, Convenience USA, Durham Regional, Duke University Health System, Harris Teeter, FedEx, Edward Jones, Qualex, Inc., Southwest Airlines, Verizon Wireless, Wake Med and many more.

up follow up interviews in the weeks to come. At times the concourse was overwhelmed with job seekers, but it didn't seem to slow down the interviewing process as IBM spoke to over 600 candidates alone.

Bulls' Special Events Manager Chip Hutchinson, "dreamed up" the idea two years ago in response to several inquiries from corporate sponsors on how to utilize the ballpark for their recruiting needs.

The "Field of Dreams" Career Expo will continue to be held annually in late September at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
