WRAL-TV met
with great success in its 12th Annual Coats For The Children Telethon.
During the telethon on Friday, December 8, WRAL-TV raised over $118,000,
at least a $30,000 increase over the 1999 totals. Triangle residents
generously responded to the need for winter clothing for less fortunate
Triangle families.
The money raised
will buy new, warm clothing for needy children in the Triangle.
Senior Producer Phyllis Parish said, "The project was a great example
of WRAL's mission statement - excellence, integrity and teamwork."
Over 100 volunteers
manned the phone lines during the telethons to record pledges. Volunteers
included members of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity from NC State, Shaw
and St. Augustine's College; Broughton High School students; Athens
Drive High School Key Club members and employees of area businesses
such as EDS, Reichhold Chemicals and Alltel.
Coats, warm
winter clothing and donations will be accepted through December
31, at WRAL-TV, Jiffy Lube & Alltel locations.
