Fever Hits Raleigh-Durham Area |
The
CIAA championship basketball tournament, a week-long series of basketball
games involving 12 black colleges from three states, will make the Raleigh-Durham
its home for the next 2 years.
Many socials and alumni
functions were held during the week. One of those special occasions was
the Men's Tip-Off Banquet held Tuesday, February 29, 2000 at the North
Raleigh Hilton.
Mrs. Joanna McLendon
(widow of John B. McLendon, the former coach of NC Central University)
honored the guests with a special CIAA anniversary cake cutting in honor
of her husband. Bob Dandridge, former professional athlete-Milwaukee Bucks,
gave an inspiring speech to all participating athletes, emphasizing, "Use
all your skills that you have learned from sports, and transfer them into
the Real World".

The banquet was filled with excitement as the competing teams arrived.
