Capitol Broadcasting
Company Grants Scholarships
The Association is a voluntary, nonprofit corporation which administers the state's interscholastic athletic program. Any North Carolina public or non-boarding parochial high school is eligible for membership, provided it is accredited by the State Department of Public Instruction and that the school adopts and maintains a prescribed code to guarantee fair competition. Capitol Broadcasting Company has granted scholarships to 192 NCHSAA qualifying students over the past twelve years. Several of the scholarship winners for this year expressed their thanks to Capitol Broadcasting for the opportunity to participate in a program that has helped them develop in academics and athletically. Click on letters for larger views Each NCHSAA member high school had an opportunity to nominate one male and one female for the scholarship, and then a regional committee reviewed those applications and selected regional winners. The 16 regional winners-- one male and one female from each of the NCHSAA regions-- then had their information forwarded to the state selection committee for the final decision on statewide winners. Candidates were evaluated on academics, athletic involvement, leadership, and were also required to write a brief essay on the value and benefits they had received from participating in high school athletics. Congratulations to this year's winners! |
