Local
Teacher Honored with a Special Presentation from IBM and the Durham
Bulls |
The new Durham Bulls
Manager, Bill Evers, made a special presentation on behalf of IBM and
the Durham Bulls to a local teacher. Both IBM and the Durham Bulls have
a strong commitment to the community and presented Joyce Moore of Glenn
Elementary with the first-ever Wool E. Bull "E" Is For Education Award
and an IBM computer.
The Wool E. Bull "E" Is For Education Award was created to honor local
teachers in the Triangle area who make an impact on students by teaching
the value of education. Gillian Zucker, Assistant General Manager of the
Durham Bulls, explains how Moore was chosen.
"Everyone has a teacher in their past that helped them learn the importance
of an education and we feel Ms. Moore is that type of teacher for many
local youth. She works hard on a daily basis not only to improve the reading
level of her students, but also to instill in each of them a passion for
reading," Zucker said. "Her efforts have left a mark not only on her students
but also on the community as a whole."
IBM presented Moore with a top of the line Aptiva personal computer and
a 17 inch monitor. Several programs are loaded on the computer, including
The World Book Encyclopedia, Kid Riffs, Emergency Room and the Lotus SmartSuite
of office software.
"We're excited to be able to recognize the phenomenal teaching commitment
of Joyce Moore. Her dedication to the children of our community shines
as an example to all, that teachers do make a difference," said David
Benevides, Community Relations Manager for IBM. "Our facility in Research
Triangle Park is the largest IBM facility in the world. As a company,
we're committed to making the best in technology available to schools
worldwide, and we're especially interested in education in the Triangle.
We're convinced Ms. Moore will use this computer for great things in the
education."
