Manager Bill Evers Visits Durham |
Bill Evers visited
the Triangle on February 10 to introduce himself to the public and tour
the community he will be calling home for the 1998 season. The Tampa Bay
Devil Rays have a strong commitment to involvement in the communities
of both their major league ballpark and their minor league affiliates.
Bill Evers, as a member of the Devil Rays organization, will impress upon
his players the importance of community involvement.
"We are going to be visible within the community as well as in the ballpark,"
Evers said. "We are going to be fan friendly team and we feel a need to
be active in the community. Even though we have a rigorous schedule, we
will make time for our fans. "
The new manager began his morning with a stop at the Durham Downtown YMCA
along with his new friend Wool E. Bull. Evers spoke to the children of
the YMCA Early Learning Center about the importance of fitness. He ended
his day by touring the area to become familiar with his new "home base".
Throughout the day, Evers sported the new 1998 season uniform that is
reminiscent of Durham Bulls uniforms of the past.
