AACC
Awards Jim Goodmon with Humanitarian AwardThe African American Cultural Complex (AACC) annually honors North Carolinians and others who have made outstanding contributions in the areas of Education, Media, Community and Humanitarian Service that have benefited the African American community, the city, state and nation. Each year, the AACC holds a banquet on the third Saturday during Black History Month to announce the award recipients. The theme of this year's banquet was "Freedom through Entrepreneurship."
CBC is proud to announce that Jim Goodmon, President and CEO of Capitol
Broadcasting Company, Inc, was awarded the 1998 Humanitarian Award, the
first Euro-American to receive this honor. Some of his initiatives include:
the donation of $200,000 to the Garner Road YMCA's capitol fund; the sponsorship
of an African artifact and art show with the proceeds going back to Africa
for scholarships; the provision of the Martin Luther King Choir robes; and
his ongoing support of Project Tanzania, which assists residents of Shinyanga
Africa with agricultural, medical and educational needs. |
