A Baseball Team To Move to Myrtle Beach

Tuesday,
June 24th was a big day for CBC's sports division, the City of Myrtle
Beach, and Horry County, SC. A group gathered at 21st Avenue North to
sign the deal which will move CBC's Class A Baseball franchise to Myrtle
Beach in 1998.

Burroughs, Chairman, Burroughs & Chapin; Myrtle Beach Mayor, Robert M.
Grissom; Horry County Commissioner, Joey McNutt; Deric Ladnier, Director
of Minor League Operation with the Atlanta Braves and Mike Hill, VP and
General Counsel for CBC at the signing in Myrtle Beach.
The Class A team, currently the Durham Bulls, is moving to make room for
the Triple A team that is coming to the Bulls name and stadium. The Bulls
will become the Triple A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Although
an official name has not been selected for the Myrtle Beach team, it will
maintain its affiliation with the Atlanta
Braves.
Edgerton Burroughs, Chairman of the Board of Burroughs & Chapin Company
announced the company approved an agreement to provide 20 acres of land
for Myrtle Beach's new minor league team stadium located across from Broadway
at the Beach. Burroughs said the company had decided to give up the land
because, "This is something that is good for our community, not only for
the residents, but for the tourists, who are the lifeblood of our community."
